Two Latvian parties contest results of 14th Saeima elections

The Central Election Commission (CVK) received three applications from Harmony political party’s candidates and three applications from People’s Power political party. In those applications representatives of both parties contest results of 14th Saeima elections, as reported by CVK Information Department lead Laura Krastiņa.
Candidates from Harmony want CVK to organise repeated counting of votes cast for the seventh list.
One member of People’s Power political party wants CVK to cancel election results and votes to be recounted in at several dozen election sites.
Politicians justify their requests with the multiple cases of technical problems and the fact that observers had no way to learn IT systems to be used in elections in advance.

Another member of People’s Power political party contested the validity of all results of the Saeima elections. He explains that although he was penalized, he was not crossed from the list of candidates.

The other reason is that, according to this politician, ‘this was a violation of the Law on Elections passed by the Constitutional Council on 9 June 1922’.
BNN previously reported that seven political parties were elected to the 14th Saeima: New Unity (26 seats), Union of Greens and Farmers (16 seats), Combined List (15 seats), National Alliance (13 seats), For Stability! (11 seats), Latvia in First Place (9 seats), and Progressive Party (10 seats).
Neither Harmony nor People’s Power received the necessary 5% of votes to enter the Saeima. This means these two parties will not be represented in the 14th Saeima.
