On the first day, when Latvian voters were able to give their votes in advance for storage for the upcoming 14th Saeima elections, 0.73% or 11 316 people used this right, according to data compiled by the Central Election Commission (CVK).
This makes it the first day of parliamentary elections when general turnout was higher than it was in 12th and 13th Saeima elections.
On the first day of 12th Saeima elections 6 730 citizens or 0.43% and on the first day of 13th Saeima elections 7 868 people or 0.51% used the aforementioned right.
On Monday, 26 September, 5 142 people or 0.91% gave their votes for storage on the first day of 14th Saeima elections in Riga.
The general turnout was 3. 352 voters (0.85%) in Vidzeme, 1 003 voters (0.56%) in Kurzeme, and 1 054 voters (0.51%) in Zemgale. General turnout was the lowest in Latgale – only 765 people or 0.39% of registered voters.
In Vidzeme general turnout was the highest in Saulkrasti, where 119 people or 1.52% of registered voters came to vote. Turnout was the lowest in Madona, where only 67 people or 0.28% of registered voters came.
General turnout in Kurzeme was the highest in Ventspils so far. There 215 people or 0.93% of registered voters came. In Ventspils County general turnout was lower – only five people or 0.06% of registered voters came.
Turnout in Zemgale was the highest in Jelgava on the first day of early elections – 361 people or 0.93% of registered voters came. The region’s lowest general turnout was in Aizkraukle, where only 70 people or 0.30% of registered voters came on the first day.
As previously reported, Monday, 26 September, marked the start of early elections of the upcoming 14th Saeima elections. Residents were able to hand their votes, which will be securely stored until Election Day, which is scheduled for Saturday, 1 October.
No early voting will be available on 27th and 28 of September.
Early election on Thursday, 29 September, will be available between 09:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m., early election on Friday, 30 September, will be available between 10:00 a.m. and 16:00 p.m.
On Saturday, 1 October, Saeima elections will be taking place across Latvia between 07:00 a.m. and 20:00 p.m.
