The stores of natural gas in Latvia exceed the volume necessary for the country to make it through the heating season, said Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš at a press-conference after a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
Kariņš stressed the government continues working on the issue of sufficient energy resources. The government also continues working on increasing gas stores.
The head of the Latvian government said that on Tuesday, 20 September, the Cabinet of Ministers made the decision to provide support to energy-intensive manufacturing companies, which is an additional support measure in addition to already approved support for residents and businesses.
The PM hopes next week the government will review the proposal on energy resource price caps suggested by the Ministry of Economics.
As previously reported, to compensate electricity price rise, the government may set the price cap for the first 100 kWh of energy.
Kariņš said the government has already approved a package of support for residents and companies worth approximately EUR 650 million.
