Latvian State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) received a total of 35 calls in the last 24 hours – eight regarding fires, 12 regarding rescues, and 15 misleading calls, VUGD reports.
Early in the morning on 16 September, VUGD received a call about a fire at a house on Flotes Street in Liepaja.
Upon arrival at the site fire fighters found that the fire had spread across 12 m2 apartment on the second floor of the building.
50 people were successfully evacuated from the building.
One injured person was handed over to the Emergency Medical Service. It took fire fighters three hours to put out the fire.
VUGD also received a call in late evening on 15 September. According to the report, a 0.5 m2 gas cylinder fire had broken out at a two-storey private house.
One person was rescued by fire fighters. Another five had evacuated on their own before fire fighters arrived. Fire fighters carried the gas cylinder from the building and checked all remaining apartments to ventilate the smoke.
At 12:27 a.m. on 16 September fire fighters received a call about a fire in the attic of a three-storey home on Aglonas Street in Riga. The fire burned in a total area of 20 m2. Fire fighters evacuated three people from the building
According to VUGD, in the last 24 hours fire fighters were also dispatched to put out trash fires.
