Latvian tennis legend Ernests Gulis was elected as president of Latvian Tennis Union on Friday, 16 September, replacing Juris Savickis in this post.
The other candidate for the post was the long-standing president of the Diplomats Tennis Club, architect and businessman Mārcis Apsītis.
31 out of 51 members voted in favour of Gulbis during a meeting in Jurmala.
Amendments passed to the Sports Law in April do not allow former members of the KGB, informers or employees from taking posts within Latvian sports federations. With that, Juris Savickis was to leave his post by 1 October.
Savickis remained president of the Latvian Tennis Union since 1998. After law amendments were passed he announced he would leave his post by October.
