Latvian minister: we’re at a dead end

Latvia’s interior affairs department will not be able to pay increased electricity bills in October, said Minister of the Interior Kristaps Eklons at a government meeting on Tuesday, 6 September.
«We won’t have money to cover electricity bills this October,» the minister announced.

«We’re at a dead end.»

According to Eklons, there are two options left – either pull funding from interior affairs services or contact Minister of Finance Jānis Reirs and ask for additional financing.
Eklons also said the interior department has done all it could to save energy resources. Nevertheless, the infrastructure of many infrastructure locations is so old the ministry simply cannot afford to pay electricity bills.
