PHOTO: Latvian State Revenue Service intercepts 214 000 contraband cigarettes

Officials of Latvian State Revenue Service’s Customs Office discovered a shipment of undeclared cigarettes while inspecting an express mail order. Cigarettes were hidden in a boiler. An inspection of a freight train also revealed a stash of contraband cigarettes in a shipment of ferro-silicon, cast iron and glass plates, VID reports.
On 26 August 2022 officials of VID airport customs office performed customs inspection at a warehouse owned by some company and discovered undeclared cigarettes in an express mail order. The contraband was discovered in a boiler.
The order, which was intended to be sent to a recipient in Ireland, contained a stash of 10 000 Winston cigarettes (500 packs of cigarettes) bearing excise stamps of the Republic of Belarus.
Contraband cigarettes were discovered during an inspection at a railway checkpoint.

On 27 August 2022 during an inspection of scans of a freight train from Russia at Zilupe border checkpoint revealed a stash inside a railway car carrying ferro-silicon cargo.
Border guards uncovered a stash of NZ and Minsk cigarettes. A total of 100 000 cigarettes or 5 000 packs bearing excise tax stamps of the Republic of Belarus were confiscated.
On 25 August 2022 border officials of Indra customs checkpoint discovered a stash of cigarettes hidden in a railway car carrying cast iron from Belarus. Customs officials confiscated a total of 40 000 Premjer cigarettes.
On 23 August 2022 a different stash of contraband cigarettes was found at the same border checkpoint. This time contraband was stashed in a shipment of glass plates. 64 000 Premjer cigarettes were found, packs bearing the excise tax label of the Republic of Belarus.
