A signature collection campaign has appeared on public initiatives portal Manabalss.lv. The goal is to ensure state-paid «repatriation» of disloyal Latvian residents to Russia.
One Olegs Zadoreckis is stated as a representative of this initiative.
He proposed ensuring voluntary and state-funded «repatriation» to Russia for Latvian residents who voluntarily agree to it.
Currently there are residents in Latvia who are more loyal to Russia than Latvia, but due to financial reasons they cannot afford «repatriation», says the author of the idea, adding that Russia’s own policy in this regard is not very effective.
Zadoreckis said in the years of restored independence of the Republic of Latvia all Latvian residents had, have and will have the opportunity to integrate into Latvia’s society with or without Latvian citizenship in accordance with principles and values of a democratic state.
However, there are still Latvian residents who are more loyal to Russia and don’t see themselves a part of a sovereign and democratic Latvian society. These people more readily associate themselves with Russian society.
«This situation is especially dangerous now that Russian armed aggression in Ukraine is in full swing and that the situation is not expected to change much once it is over. Among the people who consider themselves more loyal to Russia than Latvia are definitely both poor and simple people without savings to afford leaving Latvia in favour of living in Russia, even though they would want it,» claims the author of the initiative.
This is why he believes having state-funded «repatriation» to Russia in Latvia would help reduce conflicts in society and enhance Latvia’s internal security and welfare.
