175 days have passed since Russia’s full–scale military invasion of Ukraine. The war is far from over, which means that the people and army of Ukraine still need various types of help to fight not only for their freedom, but also for the freedom of the entire democratic world.
Not only well–known people in Latvia are calling to support Ukraine by donating, but also the Ministry of Defence (MoD) is calling on citizens to donate for Latvian Bayraktar.
According to Minister of Defence Artis Pabriks, the initiative is another proof that Latvia will continue to support Ukraine in order to enhance its defense capabilities in the comabt against Russia.
The initiators of the campaign, together with the support of the Ministry of Defence and ziedot.lv, plan to purchase a combat drone from Turkey and donate it to Ukraine. In total, it is necessary to collect five million euros.
IT IS POSSIBLE TO DONATE TO THE Bayraktar OF LATVIA ON THE PLATFORM ZIEDOT.LV OR BY CALLING 90006561.
Within 24 hours more than 8,594 people have donated EUR 280,000 for the purchase of Bayraktar.
Although Latvia has provided EUR 200 million in military support to Ukraine since the beginning of the war, the need for support remains constant.
«Ukraine should receive continuous support from the rest of the Europe,» emphasizes Pabriks.
Recently, Latvia, to support Ukraine and its army, delivered four Mi–17 and Mi–2 helicopters, as well as six M109 self–propelled howitzers.
Ukraine’s Minister of Defence Oleksii Reznikov has expressed his appreciation for Latvia’s support, stating that the six M109A5Oe howitzers received from Latvia are already showing results on the battlefield and is grateful for the unwavering support of the people and country of Latvia.
But it shouldn’t be forgotten that not only military support is essential, but support for civilians, both in war affected territories and those who were able to leave their homeland in time, is as important.
The association Tavi draugi, which has been actively involved in providing support to the people of Ukraine in various ways since the beginning of the war, yesterday, August 16, prepared a truck full of humanitarian donations on its way to Makarova Hospital in Ukraine.
«Thanks to your support and donated funds, we have managed to provide everything that is needed – doors, windows, assembly elements and materials for walls, as well as hospital beds and other necessary equipment,» the association writes in a statement.
Although the prepared truck has already left, support and donations are still and will be relevant for the people of Ukraine as the war started by Russia continues.
Information on which donations are needed at a specific time can be found on your friends of the association Facebook page or by calling 22481985.
As informed by Tavi draugi, the most relevant donations at the moment are hygiene products for women, diapers (for both children and adults), suitcases and large bags, household items such as electric kettles, pans, boilers, irons, as well as bed linen and towels.
