Opposition party proposes EUR 200 one–time allowance for pensioners due to increase in energy prices

To mitigate the negative impact of rising energy prices, the Greens and Farmers Union (ZZS), which is in opposition, is proposing a one–time allowance of EUR 200 for pensioners and other vulnerable groups.
The amendments of the Law on Measures to Reduce Exceptional Increases in Prices of energy have been submitted by members of parliament from ZZS party.
The opposition parliamentarians suggest giving the one–time allowance to every person living in Latvia who will be a recipient of an old–age, disability or survivor’s pension, a recipient of a state social security benefit and in certain other cases in the period from October 1 to December 31.
Also, ZZS calls for the one–ime allowance to be also paid to the recipients of the care allowance for a disabled child or to the recipients of the allowance for persons with disabilities who need care.
As reported before, the parties of the coalition forming the government have agreed on the support for citizens in the conditions of energy resource price increases, which will be wider and earlier than the government conceptually agreed in June this year, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš told journalists on Monday, August 8, after the coalition meeting.
