Latvian PM decides to pick Kristaps Eklons for the vacant minister’s post

Latvian Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš is prepared to propose deputy chief of the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) Kristaps Eklons for the post of minister of the interior, as the PM wrote on Twitter.
On Monday, 23 May, Kariņš met with Eklons. The two discussed important topics in the interior affairs sector, as well as future task.
As previously reported, Attīstībai/Par! decided to pick VUGD deputy chief Eklons for the vacant post of minister of the interior.
Previously the National Alliance demanded from the PM to dismiss then the Minister of the Interior Marija Golubeva over the situation observed in Victory Park on 10 May. The party threatened to leave the coalition if Golubeva remained.

Golubeva later announced her resignation, saying that she has lost the prime minister’s trust.
