In March 2022 the number of foreign and resident visitors comprised 108.8 thousand, which is 2.3 times more than in March 2021 and 36.6 % more than in March 2020 when the impact of pandemic had just started. As compared to March last year, the number of nights spent by visitors comprised 202.1 thousand, which is 2.1 time more.
In March 2022, 47.1 thousand foreign visitors were hosted at tourist accommodation establishments, which is 6.5 times more than in March 2021. The number of nights spent by non-residents has increased 5.1 time and comprised 89.6 thousand. In turn, the number of Latvian visitors hosted, compared to March 2021, rose by 50.7% and comprised 61.7 thousand. The number of nights spent by residents has grown by 42.9% and comprised 112.5 thousand, according to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia.
In Q1 2022, the number of foreign and resident visitors in Latvian tourist accommodation establishments comprised 276.4 thousand, which is 2.1 time more than in Q1 2021.
As compared to Q1 the previous year, the number of nights spent by visitors has grown by 96.3 % and comprised 512 thousand. Visitors spent an average of 1.9 nights at tourist accommodation establishments.
In Q1 2022, the number of foreign visitors comprised 113 thousand, which is five times more than in Q1 the previous year. The number of nights spent by them has risen 4.1 time and comprised 222.4 thousand. The majority of foreign visitors came from Lithuania (17.6 thousand), Estonia (14.1 thousand), Germany (10.4 thousand), United Kingdom (9.4 thousand), Russia (6.1 thousand), Poland (5.6 thousand), Ukraine (5.5 thousand) and Finland (3.9 thousand).
Out of foreign visitors 34.7% or 39.3 thousand came from neighbouring countries – Lithuania (15.6%), Estonia (12.5%), Russia (5.4%) and Belarus (1.2%).
Most foreign visitors were hosted in Riga – 82.9%, Jūrmala – 5.1%, Liepāja – 2.6%, Mārupe municipality – 1.3% and Sigulda municipality – 1.2%.
In Q1 2022 tourist accommodation establishments hosted 163.4 thousand Latvian residents, which is 50.3% more than in Q1 2021. Compared to a year ago, the number of nights spent by residents has grown by 40.1% and comprised 289.5 thousand.
Latvian visitors stayed mostly in Riga (31.5%), Jūrmala (16.5%), Liepāja (6.5%), Sigulda municipality (5.1%), Cēsis municipality (4.2%), Daugavpils (3.9%), Kuldīga municipality (2.6%), Madona municipality (2.5%) and Valmiera municipality (2.4%).
