Latvian authorities request criminal prosecution for fictive Covid-19 vaccination

On Monday, 9 May, Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) has submitted a request to the Prosecution Office for Investigation of Public Office Holders Misconduct Offences to commence criminal prosecution of one private person for inputting false information into the automated data processing system following fictive Covid-19 vaccination.
Evidence acquired in the criminal case indicate that a medical institution worker employed at a vaccination office located in shopping mall had performed fictive Covid-19 vaccination and carried out necessary actions to ensure information registered in the e-health system indicated the persons received vaccination and they are provided with a valid Covid-19 certificate. By doing this, the medical worker in question had breached Part 5 of Section 243 of the Criminal Law – knowingly entering false information into an automated data processing system if it causes harm to state social security, BNN was told by KNAB.

KNAB has acquired proof that the medical worker in question may have performed fictive vaccination of 11 people.

During the investigation KNAB received information about 320 other people who may have received fictive vaccination and valid Covid-19 certificates. Relevant information was forwarded to State Police.
