In the Estonian capital, the cycling lanes, where many traffic accidents have been registered are painted red. This was done in 2021, but this spring the colour layer needs to be repaired according to the local government, ERR reports.
«Our goal is to gradually create a network of safe bike lanes separated from sidewalks and roads in the city centre, as planned in the Tallinn Bicycle Strategy,» commented Tallinn Deputy Mayor Vladimir Svet (Centre Party) said. Svet added that it is envisaged to make new bike lanes along Pronksi tänav, Jõe tänav and Vana-Kalamaja tänav in 2021.
«Red road markings should remain in the most dangerous sections, where space is inevitably shared between cyclists and other road users, and should be renewed in these places along with crosswalks and other road markings,» the Deputy Mayor of Tallinn added, as quoted by the ERR.
