Latvian armed forces to organize military exercises

This week Latvian National Armed Forces will be holding the traditional annual Land Force Mechanized Infantry Brigade exercise Berešu maršs [March of the berets] at Ādaži training site.
The exercise will be attended by new recruits of the Mechanized Infantry Brigade. They will need to cover a distance of at least 50 km in 24 hours, accomplish different tactical objectives at ten different stations, as well as pass a test on the history of the Mechanized Infantry Brigade.

Upon successful completion of objectives, the soldier will have the right to wear the sand-coloured beret and unit’s badge, which symbolizes affiliation with the unit, as reported by the Mechanized Infantry Brigade.

Exercises, which will be going on from 21st to 22nd of April, will be taking place both during the day and at night.
This tradition is organised twice a year – April and October. The goal is to train new recruits and integrate them into their unit.
On 23rd and 24th April Priežmale village in Krāslava County’s Kastuļina Parish will be hosting National Guard’s 35th Infantry Battalion’s military exercises to train troops to perform defensive operations within populated areas. During this exercise members of the national guard will train to patrol the village’s territory and organize defence of Priežmale People’s Hall. The operation will be taking place during the day and at night, as confirmed by Latvian National Guard’s 3.Latgale Brigade 35th Infantry Battalion’s public affairs office.

During the exercise military personnel and national guard will be travelling within Priežmale in Kastuļina Parish on military vehicles both on regional and local roads.

No munitions of any kind will be used during exercises. Exercises involving the National Guard will be done within territories agreed upon with local municipal administration. If need be, troops will clean up after exercises.
On top of that, the National Guard will be holding previously scheduled military exercises at Meža Mackeviči training site in Augšdaugava County’s Vabole Parish this month. The objective is maintaining is improving individual and team skills of the national guard and troops of national armed forces, as reported by the 3rd Latgale Brigade of the National Guard.
Members of the national guard and troops of Latvian national armed forces take part in different training activities on weekends. This includes firing exercises – both with light machine guns and anti-tank Carl Gustav launchers, as well as other weapons.
According to the plan of military exercises, 1 April marked the conclusion of the rescue training course organised by mobile training specialists of the 3rd Latgale Brigade in cooperation with paramedics to expand the medical knowledge and skills of members of the National Guard and troops.
Military exercises are organised at Meža Mackeviči training site regularly. During exercises military vehicles, armed troops and national guards can be seen in the area surrounding the training site. Both live ammunition and blanks are used during exercises. Exercises are also accompanied by loud noise and smoke. Precautions are always in place to make sure people’s health and lives are not put in danger. Live ammunition is used only within the designated areas at the training site. Residents are prohibited from touching any munition, components or other suspicious objects within the training site’s territory. If any such items are found, they have to be reported to the training site’s administration by phone (27883109).
