Estonia has spent EUR 170 million on various schemes to help households and businesses overcome the price hike of energy bills this heating season, Estonian public broadcaster ERR reports.
As electricity and gas prices soared in the autumn of 2021, the Estonian government adopted several consecutive decisions to make it easier to pay energy bills both to households and businesses.

EUR 158 million have been paid out in compensation to private consumers and businesses as part of the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs’s support measures. The Estonian Ministry of Finance has paid out an additional some EUR 10 million in energy bill support through local governments.
A total of seven measures were employed to compensate unexpectedly high energy costs to domestic and business consumers, six of which were offered by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications and one by the Ministry of Finance. In the remaining scheme, support can still be received for the month of. The other six measures have been closed, ERR reports.
