On 19 April deputy chief of State Police Main Criminal Police’s Economic Crimes Enforcement Office, Lt. Col. Dmitrijs Homenko was elected as the new director of Latvian State Police College.
State Police note that because the previous director of the college Ģirts Zalāns has decided to retire from his service in State Police, the position of director of State Police College has remained vacant since mid-January 2022. It is important to develop and ensure quality education process for up and coming police officers and existing State Police officials. A selection process was announced on 21 January and concluded on 10 February.
After evaluating previous experience and vision for the development of the State Police College and State Police officials’ education system, ability to look at the education process in an innovative way and spot new development perspectives, preference was given to deputy chief of State Police Main Criminal Police’s Economic Crimes Enforcement Office, Dmitrijs Homenko for this post.
«I am confident of Dmitry Homenko’s professionalism, which he previously proved time and time again throughout his service in State Police. His professionalism is highly praised by Latvia and our colleagues in other countries,» said chief of State Police Armands Ruks.
«Dmitrijs has successfully formed international cooperation with US Federal Bureau of Investigation and US Department of Justice, as well as different European countries and specialists.»
Ruks stresses: «On top of that, he also has rick experience in teaching and management. He had also headed different innovative projects in the past. Dmitrijs Homenko has ambitions, an innovative vision and appropriate energy.»
He adds that he has «no doubts this new director will come in with new and different vision and will help breathe new life into the college». «He is entrusted with a very important post, because good education is the foundation for everything throughout the entire life of each person. The better the foundation we provide, the better the professionalism of State Police will be in the future.»
The general opinion in the police is that Homento is fit for the post of director of State Police College. Homenko graduated from University of Latvia with Master’s degree in law. He also has nearly 20 years of experience working in State Police, including in management posts.
In the past Homenko headed interesting projects both in regards to direct functions and professional improvement. He also has teaching experience from his time at Riga Stradins University and different seminars and scientific conferences.
«I am a creator by nature. I like seeing results that inspire and motivate colleagues to continue their ideas and gain accomplishments. This is why I plan to promote public needs and ideas of my colleagues in my work. I can see perspective for new directions. I also hope existing personnel will share their ideas for us to implement together. I am full of energy and readiness to work. I would like to use my experience and scientific knowledge in new accomplishments,» said the new director of Latvian State Police College.
«I believe it’s possible to school well-trained police officers by expanding everyday studies with practical activities and giving cadets case studies. This is why we in the State Police College should pool our knowledge and put our heads together to ensure those youngsters are fit for duty in State Police as quickly as possible. We will work to support each other and look towards innovations.»
Homenko has served in Latvian State Police since 2002, when he first started studies in Latvian Police Academy.
His contribution to State Police, accomplishments and professionalism have earned him many awards not only in Latvia, but in foreign countries as well, US included.
