The weekend in Latvia will start off with mostly cloudy, rainy and windy weather. For Eastern weather will improve due to increased atmospheric pressure. The sky will clear up, the wind will calm down and precipitation will cease.
Weather will remain cold in Latvia – air temperature will not exceed +10° C during the day. At night air temperature may drop below 0° C in most of Latvia, according to Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Good Friday will be cloudy and rainy in most of Latvia. Precipitation is also expected, including wet snow in eastern parts of the country. While at night the wind will be slow, during the day wind speed will increase. The wind will blow from the north, reaching a speed of 17 m/sec along the coast. Air temperature at night will be +4° C… +6° C, whereas daytime air temperature will be relatively warm: +5° C… +11° C.
Silent Saturday will be rather cloudy. The sky will clear up only in western parts of the country.
Some showers and wet snow expected in eastern parts of the country. The wind will pick up in strength – north-western and northern winds will reach a speed of up to 15 m/sec. Air temperature at night will drop to -1° C… +4° C, whereas daytime air temperature will reach +5° C… +9° C.
On First and Second Easter weather will be mostly sunny and dry. Air temperature at night will be +1 C… -4 C, whereas daytime air temperature will reach +4 C… +10 C.
Weather will be perfect for spending time outside.
Because in previous years Easter fell generally on late March and late April, weather also ranged from summer heat to winter cold.
If we look at Easter in Latvia between 1991 and 2021, it becomes clear that:
Easter in Latvia was the hottest in 2000, when air temperature in most of the country as above +20° C, reaching +27.9° C on Second Easter (24 April);
Easter was the coldest in Latvia in 2013, when air temperature dropped as far as -14.5° C in Zosēni on Good Friday, 29 March;
The biggest volume of precipitation on Easter was observed in Latvia in 2001, when 42 mm of precipitation was recorded in Carnikava between 13th and 16th of April. On top of that, most of the country experiences considerable snowfall: the layer of snow in Kalnciems reached 32 cm;
There was Easter in Latvia during which the layer of snow reached 59 cm in Griškāni, which was on 5 April 1996;
The highest wind speed observed in Latvia on Easter was on 30 March 1991;
Current forecasts suggest weather will become warmer on the first days after the holiday. In the second half of the week weather will become cold and rainy again.
