In the Estonian capital, a school education programme for Ukrainian refugee children has been opened this week Estonian public broadcaster ERR reports.
Tallinn’s Lilleküla Gymnasium is the only school in Estonia, where as many as 200 Ukrainian pupils will be able to learn together in one place. From this week, there are over 60.
ETV channel’s programme Aktuaalne kaamera reported on Tuesday, April 12, that a day at the school begins with a discussion about how the children are feeling and whether someone needs help or wants to be alone. As many children are still distance learning with teachers in Ukraine, time for this is factored into the day. Then lessons begin.

Although children at the school speak Russian, there is no intermediary learning language. Tallinn’s Lilleküla Gymnasium is one of the most experienced schools in Estonia when it comes to this method and is an integration competence centre, where children are also assisted by teachers from Ukraine, ERR reports.
