Previously daytime weather in Latvia was dictated by cyclone activity. This week, however, its influence will decrease. With increased atmospheric pressure there will be less precipitation and days will become warmer. In the second half of the week, as Easter draws nearer, weather will become volatile.
Some snowing is possible in some areas on Easter, according to Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
On Monday, 11 April, the sky will be mostly cloudy. Some rain is expected in central and eastern areas. Thunderstorms and hail is also possible. The wind will be slow and will blow from the south and south-west (west along the coast). The wind will calm down in the evening. Fog may appear in western parts of Latvia. Motorists are urged to be careful because some roads may become slippery and visibility may become peer during precipitation and fog!
Air temperature at night will be -2° C… +3° C, whereas daytime air temperature will reach +6° C… +11° C.
In the middle of the week, Tuesday and Wednesday, the sky will be cloudy with moments of sunshine. Precipitation is expected mainly in eastern regions only on Tuesday night. There is a possibility of thunderstorms. On Wednesday an anticyclone will be present in the skies above Latvia. Weather will be mostly dry. The wind will be slow both days. This means fog will form at night in many parts of Latvia, which will remain until morning. Air temperature at night will drop to +1° C… -3° C, whereas daytime air temperature may reach +8° C… +12° C. It is expected to be colder along the coast, where air temperature will be only +4° C… +7° C.
In the second half of the week, closer to Easter, weather will start changing. Wind speed will be slow to moderate. On Thursday and Friday a new precipitation zone will pass through Latvia from the west, bringing rain to most of the country. Thursday will be the warmest day of the week – air temperature will be 0° C.. +6° C, whereas daytime air temperature will reach +9° C… +14° C in many parts of Latvia.
On Friday air temperature will not go higher than +10° C. Weather will get colder on the weekend. According to current forecasts, weather on the weekend will be dictated by a wide portion of an active cyclone. Colder masses of air will flow to the country from the north – at night weather will drop below 0° C. Daytime air temperature will not exceed +7° C. Some precipitation is also expected – rain, wet snow and snow.
