Ambassador: regime in Russia shows more and more similarities with Hitler’s ideology

The regime of Russian President Vladimir Putin shows more and more signs of similarities with Adolf Hitler’s Nazi ideology, said Latvia’s ambassador to Ukraine Ilgvars Kļava in an interview to LTV programme Rīta panorāma.
According to the diplomat, the end of the war is nowhere to be seen, because Russia’s army is regrouping from one region to others instead of leaving Ukraine.
Kļava says he feels cautious after the recent reports about Ukraine in Russia. Those reports, according to him, can be interpreted as an attempt to deny Ukraine’s rights to exist as a country and a nation.
According to Latvia’s ambassador, he as a historian can draw parallels only with Hitler’s regime, which was confident in its right to decide which nations have the right to exist. «This cannot be interpreted as anything other than a nightmare,» said the ambassador, mentioning as a positive that this vision comes apart in Ukraine. As a negative, he mentioned that Russia has yet to learn anything from this failure.
As for Bucha and other war crimes committed by Russian forces, the diplomat said there are parallels between that and the Katyn massacre, Terrible Year in Latvia and other cases when Russia committed crimes and tried hiding them.

The ambassador admits that once the war is over it will be an enormous challenge for the system of international law to ensure those responsible for crimes are brought to justice. However, he believes it will be possible at least partially.
The diplomat stressed it is not possible to end talks, because any military conflict always ends with talks.
