Latvian Riga forests company offers employment opportunities for Ukrainians

Strongly condemning Russia’s attack on Ukraine and civilians, Riga forests offers practical support and solutions to people who have arrived in Latvia from the war-torn country. The company currently has 15 vacancies and practical training opportunities available, BNN was told by the company.
Riga forests offers 15 jobs to people in the company’s Gardens and parks section. Jobs offered include park gardener, repair technician, utility technician, utility machinery operator, worker, arborist. The jobs listed are available in accordance with regulations – until the end of the year.
Refugees from Ukraine are not required to know Latvian language.
Riga forests guarantee remuneration, social guarantees and other benefits to Ukrainian refugees on the level provided to Latvian residents.
Riga forests also offer the following training to Ukrainian refugees who have fled the war:
-free excursion training from a manager/industry expert within territories managed by the company: parks and gardens in Riga and woods located in Pieriga. Excursions available on weekdays 09:00-17:00 for groups up to 20 people. Participants are required to sign up in advance;
-free practical training under supervision by a manager/industry expert as part of the Green class education programme within the territory of Norupe plant nursery in Ogre county’s Tīnūži parish. Practical training available on weekdays 09:00-17:00 for groups up to 20 people. Participants are required to sign up in advance.

Riga forests is also prepared to offer Ukrainian citizens other activities. This includes the big cleaning event #IEkop at woods, gardens and parks in Riga and Pieriga this spring.
To ensure employment procedures go as smoothly as possible, Riga forests reminds of the steps Ukrainians should undertake upon their arrival in Latvia:
-After crossing Latvia’s border, Ukrainians should contact the State Border Guard, which will provide information as to what they should do.

-Ukrainian citizens should turn to the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs with an application to request a long-term visa with work permit in Latvia without restrictions for a period of up to one year.

There is also the option of turning straight to Latvia’s State Employment Agency (in any branch office, state and Riga municipality-based support centres for Ukrainian refugees in Riga Congress Centre in person or by phone). The agency’s consultants will help find jobs or contact Riga forests.
