The Latvian government does not plan to change its decisions concerning the current Covid-19 restrictions after the nationwide emergency situation ends on March 1, Latvian President of Ministers Krišjānis Kariņš said on LTV1’s programme Rīta panorāma.
According to him, the spread of the infectious disease was currently at its peak, because the number of Covid-19infections has not been growing for the past two weeks, but has not also begun to decrease.
«There are somewhat more in hospitals – that is was we should be worried about,» Latvian prime minister noted adding that the pandemic has not ended yet.
Kariņš did not predict a rise in deaths in March, taking into account how Covid-19 spreads in other countries. The prime minister also called for further vaccination against the virus.
Reportedly, from March 1, in Latvia receiving certain, but reduced number services will require a Covid-19 certificate after the government approved amendments to the regulations on epidemiological safety measures to limit the spread of Covid-19 infection.

The Latvian Ministry of Health, which submitted the amendments, stated that the provision will be maintained for public events on premises and services, where there is a higher risk of Covid-19 spreading – entertainment events, discos, dance clubs, gambling, services without face masks, such as sports services, beauty services, wellness services and catering services.
