Latvian meteorologists predict varied weather conditions this week

In the first half of the week weather will be mostly calm – very little precipitation is expected and the wind will be strong only along the coast. But in the second half of the week weather will change under cyclone activity – the wind will pick up in speed in the entire country, and there will be more precipitation.
Weather will calm down on Saturday and Sunday and will become slightly colder, according to Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
At the beginning of the week weather in the country will be dictated by the eastern portion of a cyclone. On Monday, 14 February, the sky will become clear. This means no precipitation. The wind will blow from the south and south-west and will be slow. Along the coast wind speed may reach 15-17 m/sec. Air temperature will reach +1° C… +5° C.
On Tuesday, weather in Latvia will be dictated by a cyclone. This means volatile amounts of clouds and some rain showers both in the morning and during the day. Some areas will experience wet snow as well.
Roads will be slippery – motorists should be very careful! The wind will be slow and will blow from south and south-west. Minimal air temperature at night will be at 0° C… -5° C (+1° C… -2° C along the coast in Kurzeme), whereas daytime air temperature will reach +1° C… +4° C.
On Wednesday atmospheric pressure will continue going down. The sky will be mostly cloudy. At night some areas may experience rain and wet snow. A wide precipitation zone will pass through Latvia from the west – most areas will experience rain and wet snow. The wind will blow from the south and south-west. In some areas wind speed will reach 15-17 m/sec. Minimal air temperature at night will be -1° C… +3° C, whereas daytime air temperature will reach +2° C… +6° C.
In the second half of the week weather will be dictated by several cyclones. Weather will become windy and richer with precipitation. On the night to Thursday, 17 February, a cyclone will pass through the northern parts of the Baltic Sea. A precipitation zone will reach Latvia. This means rain in all of the country’s territory. In some areas rainfall will be intensive. The wind will be moderate to strong and will blow from the west and south-west, reaching a speed of 15-18 m/sec (20-21 m/sec along the coast).
Air temperature during the day will stay within 0° C… +6° C. On Friday, 18 February, weather will remain rainy and windy. Air temperature will start going down. Wet snow and snow will replace rain.
Air temperature will continue going down on the weekend – at night air temperature will drop below 0° C. Some thawing is expected during the day.
