Zemgale District Court has sentenced a man to seven years and two months in prison for lasting sexual abuse of a little girl. According to evidence presented to the court, this abuse lasted for three years.
The court found the man guilty sentenced him to seven years and two months in prison with a probation period of four years, as confirmed by the prosecution.
The accused, using the situation of being alone with a little girl he knew and knowing that the child would not be able to fully understand his actions due to her young age, regularly engaged in sexual acts with her during a period of three years.
On top of that, the accused was also engaged in distribution of child pornography.
Sexual violence committed against a person who has not reached the age of 16 is punishable with deprivation of freedom for a period of five to 15 years, according to the Criminal Law.
Distribution of child pornography is punishable with deprivation of freedom for up to three years, community service or a fine.
«The actions of the accused resulted in a violation of the sexual integrity of the child, her normal physical and psychological development, as well as caused great psychological consequences – high levels of anxiety, depression, insecurity and a constant sense of danger,» the statement of the prosecution mentions.
