Lithuania to host additional German troops in NATO battle group

The German government has negotiated with Lithuania sending additional troops to the Baltic country, where Germany leads an international battle group made up of international NATO, according to British news portal The Guardian and British-Canadian news agency Reuters.
Amid tensions around the security of the borders of Ukraine and in the wider region bordering Russia, Germany’s Defence Minister Christine Lambrecht has emphasised her government’s continuing military commitment on NATO’s eastern flank.

«We [Germany] are already making a very important contribution in Lithuania, where we are the only country in the European Union to have a battle group,» Lambrecht noted. «As a matter of principle, additional troops are available as reinforcement, and we are in talks with Lithuania at the moment to find out what exactly would make sense in this regard … Everyone in NATO can rely on us.»
According to Reuters, on Monday, February 7, Lambrecht stated that Germany will send up to 350 more troops to Lithuania to expand the NATO enhanced presence battle group.
