Ukrainian and US presidents discuss efforts to establish peace in Ukraine

This week, the second phone conversation between US and Ukrainian presidents in January 2022 has taken place. The leaders have discussed the results of the Normandy format of peace talks aimed at ending the Donbas War, as well as the attempts to deter further aggression of Russia against Ukraine.
According to a report by the Office of the President of Ukraine, released on Friday, January 28, Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed gratitude to the United States and personally to Joseph Biden for a strong and unwavering support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and for the U.S. leadership in mobilizing the world community to deter Russian aggression.

As to the Donbas War in eastern Ukraine, the presidents of Ukraine and the US discussed the results of the recent Normandy-format talks at the level of political advisers. Joe Biden commended the agreement reached on an unconditional return to the ceasefire, while Zelenskiy voiced Ukraine’s readiness to hold a meeting in the Normandy format at the level of leaders in the near future, reported the Office of the President of Ukraine.
