Cyclone to replace a high-pressure area over the Baltic Sea

On Tuesday, the 13th of October, the sky will be cloudy; during the night, this will bring brief rain to many areas and thunderstorms to some coastal locations. During the day, brief rain will persist mainly in the east, though the sun will break through in places, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

Winds will be light, though a light to moderate north-northwesterly wind—with gusts reaching up to 14 m/s—will blow along the coast at night. Fog will form in some areas overnight and in the morning. Temperatures will drop to +4…+8°C at night (+10°C on the coast) and rise to +8…+13°C during the day.

Wednesday will also be mostly cloudy, with fog forming in some areas overnight and in the morning. Starting in the morning, a precipitation zone will cross Latvia from the west, bringing intermittent rain to most of the country. As a new cyclone approaches Latvia from the west, the wind will gradually strengthen, becoming a moderate to moderately strong southerly or southwesterly wind, with gusts reaching 15–19 m/s on the coast. From the morning onwards, the wind along the coast and in the west will gradually shift to blow from the west or northwest.

Overnight, temperatures will drop to between +5°C and +10°C, while daytime highs will reach +8°C to +13°C.

On Thursday, skies in the west will see variable cloudiness, whereas the east will be cloudier, with rain expected in many areas overnight. The day itself is expected to be free of significant precipitation. Winds will be light, though a light to moderate westerly or north-westerly wind—with gusts reaching up to 14 m/s—will persist along the coast overnight. Fog will form in some eastern areas overnight and into the morning. Temperatures will cool to +6°C–+11°C overnight and warm up to +11°C–+14°C during the day.

Towards the end of the week, the rain will subside and the sun will appear at times; gusty winds are not expected until Tuesday, when the weather will likely turn wetter and windier again.
