Former German Chancellor Schroeder visited the Russian dictator

On the 8th of October, the Kremlin reported that former German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder participated in Russian dictator Putin’s birthday celebrations at a Russian home, Reuters reports.Photos posted on the Telegram communications website show a wide-smiling Schroeder and Putin shaking hands, with an old-fashioned stove and cooker in the background. The Kremlin reported on Telegram that Putin heard on the morning news the day before that Schroeder was in Moscow for business related to the company Globus, and then he invited his old friend to visit. Schroeder also participated in Putin’s 74th birthday celebrations.Schroeder was the Chancellor of Germany from 1998 to 2005, and recently became a member of the supervisory board of the Russian supermarket chain Hyperglobus. On the 7th of October, he visited one of the chain’s stores in Moscow, where he was greeted with applause.The former politician has faced harsh criticism for his close relations with the Russian business environment and Putin, which have continued despite Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and the sanctions imposed by Western countries.Putin said in May that Schroeder could represent the European Union in peace talks in Ukraine.
