Trump hopes for Nobel Peace Prize again

US President Donald Trump—who has started a war with Iran and has not yet achieved peace in Ukraine—said on the 7th of October that he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize, though he admitted he doubted his chances, Reuters reports.Regarding the Nobel Peace Prize – the winners of which are to be announced on the 9th of October – Trump said he did not know what the committee’s decision would be, noting that it had a habit of not awarding the prize to “people like him.”Since returning to the White House in January 2025, Trump has repeatedly stated that he deserves the prestigious award. He told journalists gathered in the Oval Office that it was time for him to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, though he had also been honored last year to receive a medal from a laureate who said no one deserved it more than President Trump. In January of this year, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado handed her Nobel Peace Prize medal to Trump. Trump believes he should receive the Nobel Peace Prize for ending eight conflicts he claims to have resolved since returning to office. Leaders from Israel, Cambodia, and Pakistan have indicated that they submitted Trump’s nomination, though this cannot be verified. Parties involved in some of the conflicts Trump claims to have resolved question the US President’s diplomatic role, and hostilities have reignited in several regions, including the Congo and along the border between Cambodia and Thailand. So far, the US President has failed to end Russian aggression in Ukraine. US and Israeli strikes against Iran have escalated into a seven-month-long conflict that has driven up global energy prices and threatens the Republicans’ standing in the midterm elections.
