At least 115,593 people, or 7.42% of Latvia’s 1,557,615 eligible voters, have cast their ballots so far ahead of the Saeima election, according to data compiled by the Central Election Commission (CVK).In Riga, at least 47,843 people, or 7.98% of eligible voters, have cast their ballots. This figure also includes 4,907 people abroad who registered to vote by post.For postal voting, the number of voters considered to have voted includes those who were sent voting materials and who have not voted or deposited a ballot for safekeeping in person at a polling station, the CVK explained.Among the regions, the highest turnout over the four days has been recorded in Vidzeme, where at least 33,134 voters, or 8.26%, have deposited their ballots for safekeeping.In Zemgale, turnout has reached 6.53%, with 13,019 citizens having visited polling stations so far. In Kurzeme, at least 11,568 people, or 6.64%, have deposited their ballots, while in Latgale 10,029 voters have cast their ballots so far, representing 5.46% of eligible voters.As of Thursday, the highest turnout has been recorded in Ādaži Municipality, where 12.19% of registered eligible voters have cast their ballots. The lowest turnout has been recorded in Augšdaugava Municipality, at 4%.Data from some polling stations are still being awaited.Throughout the working days of this week, voters can deposit their ballots for safekeeping at any of the 933 polling stations across Latvia.The CVK explains that this form of voting is conceptually similar to advance voting, although there are some procedural differences that allow voters to change their minds during the week leading up to election day and replace the ballot they have already deposited.The official Saeima election day is Saturday.
