August turns chilly in Latvia – temperatures to drop to just plus seven degrees overnight

Rain will continue in the far east of Latvia during the night into Wednesday, but the precipitation zone will gradually move away as the night progresses. Elsewhere in Latvia, brief showers are expected, with thunderstorms possible in some areas during the day, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

Fog will form in some areas overnight. Winds will be light to moderate, blowing from the west during the night and shifting to the south during the day. Temperatures will fall to between +7°C and +11°C, while much of the coastal area will remain slightly warmer at +12°C to +16°C. Daytime highs will reach +17°C to +22°C.

Rain will continue on Thursday and Friday, with heavy showers and thunderstorms possible in some areas. Winds will strengthen on Thursday and become gusty along the coast, before easing again on Friday, when light to moderate southerly winds are expected. Overnight lows will range from +10°C to +15°C, while daytime temperatures will reach +16°C to +20°C, with some areas a few degrees warmer on Friday.

Slight changes are expected towards the end of the week as a ridge of high pressure gradually approaches Latvia on Sunday. As a result, precipitation is expected to decrease next week, while temperature trends will remain broadly similar to those observed this week.
