Poland slashes fuel tax as government also caps prices

Poland will cut the value-added tax (VAT) on fuel and introduce fuel price caps from Monday until the end of the school summer holidays on the 31st of August.
The VAT rate will be reduced from 23% to 8%. The Ministry of Energy will also set maximum retail fuel prices on a daily basis, taking into account average wholesale prices and the operating costs of the largest suppliers.
The prices set by the ministry for Monday, when converted from Polish zlotys, amount to approximately 1.49 euros per litre of petrol and around 1.67 euros per litre of premium petrol, while the price cap for diesel is approximately 1.71 euros per litre.
Through these measures, the Polish government aims to ease the financial burden on people returning from their holidays.
In neighbouring Germany, a temporary fuel tax reduction introduced for two months expired at the end of June, despite renewed calls for measures to ease the financial burden on motorists.
