Latvia will continue to enjoy warm and mostly dry summer weather over the weekend, but conditions will become more unsettled from Sunday. A cyclone approaching the Baltic region on Saturday evening will bring more clouds, rain and locally thunderstorms on Sunday and into the beginning of next week.
After several calm and warm days, the weather will therefore become more changeable and slightly cooler, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
During the night to Friday skies will be mostly cloudy across much of Latvia, while Kurzeme will see fewer clouds. Variable cloud cover is expected throughout the country during the day, with no significant precipitation.
Winds will remain light, and fog may develop in parts of Kurzeme overnight, reducing visibility. Temperatures will fall to +11…+16°C during the night, while daytime highs will reach +18…+23°C, rising to +24…+27°C across many western and central areas.
Saturday will also remain dry, but a band of rain will reach Latvia on Sunday morning.
Rain will first arrive in Kurzeme before spreading mainly to central and eastern regions from around midday, with thunderstorms also possible in some areas.
Winds will remain light during the night to Saturday. During Saturday and Sunday, however, they will strengthen slightly, becoming light to moderate and blowing predominantly from the south.
Night-time temperatures over the weekend will generally range between +14…+19°C, although some places will be a few degrees cooler during the night to Saturday.
Daytime temperatures will reach +22…+27°C, while on Saturday some areas could see temperatures climb as high as +29°C.
At the beginning and middle of next week, Latvia’s weather will be increasingly influenced by a cyclone. As a result, rainfall will become more frequent and temperatures will fall, although winds are expected to remain mostly light.
Daytime temperatures will generally reach only +16…+21°C, with central parts of the country likely to be a few degrees warmer on Monday.
