The increase of Covid-19 patients at Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital (PSKUS) has remained flat so far, said the chairman of the board of the hospital Rinalds Muciņš in an interview to LTV programme Rīta panorāma.
For example, the number of Covid-19 patients has increased from approximately 60 to 80 in the last week. Nevertheless, Muciņš stressed that it is also necessary to look how the recent surge in infected numbers could affect the workload for hospitals. Most of the Covid-19 patients that end up hospitalised are not vaccinated.
Muciņš said in this wave of infections the hospital prepares for Covid-19 patients being put in decentralised wards, because the patients that will have ended up hospitalised with other diagnoses. Covid-19 will be a side diagnosis for those people.
The manager of the hospital admitted some of the staff at the hospital are sick with Covid-19. Although this hasn’t created problems for healthcare services yet, it is still possible these problems will appear in the future.
