After several hot days across much of Latvia, the current warm air mass will be replaced by cooler conditions. Over the coming days, daytime temperatures will generally range between +18°C and +23°C, with only Monday expected to be slightly warmer, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Weather conditions during the next few days will be influenced by a series of low-pressure systems. Only Sunday, when atmospheric pressure briefly rises due to a ridge of high pressure, is expected to be mostly dry and calm.
On Friday, the 7th of August, winds will become gusty. They will ease over the weekend, remaining light, before strengthening again from Monday.
On Friday, skies will be mostly cloudy with occasional sunny intervals. Brief showers are expected in some areas, while eastern Latvia may experience isolated thunderstorms and heavy downpours overnight.
Winds will initially remain light during the night but will gradually shift to the west and southwest, becoming light to moderate along the coast before continuing throughout the day. Gusty conditions are expected overnight along the coast and during the day in western Latvia and Vidzeme.
Overnight temperatures will range from +15°C to +19°C, while daytime highs will reach between +18°C and +23°C.
During the weekend, skies will remain partly cloudy, with scattered showers expected in some areas. On Saturday, isolated heavy rain showers and thunderstorms are also possible. By Sunday, a high-pressure system will approach Latvia, bringing drier weather and fewer showers.
Patchy fog is expected to develop in some areas overnight, reducing visibility. On Saturday, light to moderate westerly winds will prevail, while Sunday will be mostly calm with light winds.
Night-time temperatures will fall to between +13°C and +18°C, with some locations expected to be a couple of degrees cooler by Sunday morning. Daytime temperatures will generally remain between +18°C and +23°C, although clearing skies on Sunday could allow temperatures to rise locally to +25°C.
At the beginning of next week, another low-pressure system will approach Latvia, bringing rain to different parts of the country on a daily basis. Winds will once again become gusty, although daytime temperatures will remain pleasantly summery.
By the middle of next week, atmospheric pressure is expected to rise, resulting in predominantly dry and sunny weather across most of Latvia.
