After a rain-soaked first half of the week, warmer summer weather is set to return to Latvia, with only isolated showers expected over the weekend, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Heavy rainfall has dominated much of the week, with all observation stations in Kurzeme and Zemgale already recording more precipitation than the monthly average. While the influence of cyclones will still bring rain to some areas over the coming days, a warmer air mass is expected to move into Latvia during the weekend, pushing temperatures above +25°C in some parts of the country early next week.
On Friday, 24 July, skies will remain mostly cloudy, although sunny spells are expected during the day. Scattered showers are forecast overnight in some areas and more widely across central and eastern Latvia during the daytime. Winds will remain light.
Overnight temperatures will fall to +10°C to +15°C, while daytime highs will range between +17°C and +21°C.
Over the weekend, skies will be partly cloudy, with only isolated short-lived showers expected.
On Saturday, light winds across much of the country will allow fog to develop in many areas, reducing visibility. Southerly winds will strengthen slightly from the second half of Saturday night in Kurzeme, before spreading across the rest of Latvia on Sunday.
Night-time temperatures will generally range between +10°C and +15°C, while daytime highs will reach +18°C to +23°C. In some locations on Sunday, temperatures could climb to +25°C.
The start of next week will bring a return to typically warm summer conditions. Light to moderate winds will prevail, although periods of rain are still expected.
From the middle of the week onwards, precipitation is forecast to ease, with weather becoming mostly dry and predominantly sunny across Latvia.
