Rain and thunderstorms expected in Latvia at the beginning of the week

Clouds will dominate the skies across Latvia on Monday and Tuesday, bringing rain to most parts of the country, including heavy downpours and thunderstorms in some areas, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

On Monday evening and during the night into Tuesday, prolonged rainfall is expected in some western regions, while precipitation intensity is forecast to decrease during the day on Tuesday. Fog may thicken in certain areas during the night and morning hours, significantly reducing visibility during both fog and heavy rain showers. A light to moderate northerly wind will prevail, though thunderstorms may bring sudden strong wind gusts.

On Monday night, air temperatures will remain between +7°C and +12°C, with slightly cooler conditions in Kurzeme. Tuesday night will be warmer, with temperatures ranging from +9°C to +12°C, and from +12°C to +14°C in eastern regions. During the daytime, temperatures in many areas are expected to rise to between +15°C and +20°C, while some northeastern districts could see highs of up to +22°C. Coastal areas, however, will remain somewhat cooler.

Weather conditions are expected to become calmer on Wednesday,

with sunshine alternating with clouds. Rain is mainly expected in eastern regions, and winds will remain light. Overnight temperatures will fall to between +5°C and +9°C, while in the far eastern regions temperatures will stay between +10°C and +11°C. During the day, the air will warm up to +17°C to +21°C, while coastal areas will see temperatures between +12°C and +16°C.

The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre notes that warmer weather is expected across a wider area toward the end of the week. Nighttime temperatures across almost the entire country are forecast to remain above +10°C, while daytime temperatures in some places may climb as high as +24°C. Cloud cover is expected to increase, bringing more frequent rainfall.
