At the end of the week a wind storm is expected in Latvia, with the speed of north-west, west wind reaching 18-23 m/sec (25-28 m/sec along the coast), as reported by Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
On Saturday, 15 January, the cyclone will start moving from Latvia further towards Russia’s south-eastern territories. As the influence of the cyclone reduces, wind speed at night will likely remain at 15-18 m/sec (22-24 m/sec along the coast). The wind will calm down during the day. Some snow and wet snow is expected in some areas in the east. As the sky clears, however, precipitation is expected to calm down in the afternoon.
Daytime air temperature will stay at -1° C… +3° C during the day. Drivers are urged to be careful as roads in certain areas may become slippery.
On Sunday night weather in Latvia will be dictated by the northern portion of the anticyclone – a high atmospheric pressure will pass through the country’s territory at night. The wind will blow from the north-west and west. At night the wind direction will change from the south-west and south. Wind speed will gradually increase, reaching a speed of 15-16 m/sec along the coast by evening.
At night the sky will clear, which means air temperature may drop as far as -3° C… -7° C. During the day the sky will be covered by thick clouds. A wide precipitation zone will pass through Latvia from the west – rain and wet snow is expected in the west and snow in central and eastern regions. Certain roads may become slippery. Air temperature during the day will stay at -1° C… +4° C.
A new cyclone will approach the country from the north – wind speed will increase and the volume of precipitation will increase.
