Prime Minister Evika Siliņa (New Unity) will ensure that the e-signature remains available, user-friendly, stable, and reliable, emphasised her communications advisor Sandris Sabajevs.
The TV3 programme Nekā personīga reported last week that if the government does not make a decision in the coming weeks, the e-signature service will no longer be available from January.
According to Sabajevs, Siliņa has discussed the situation with Minister for Smart Administration and Regional Development Raimonds Čudars and Minister of Finance Arvils Ašeradens.
Sabajevs also noted that the ministries responsible for the e-signature — the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development — must submit a clear solution to the government as soon as possible to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the e-signature service.
“The Prime Minister will ensure that the e-signature remains available, easy to use, stable, and reliable,”
Sabajevs stated.
“Nekā personīga” had already reported last year on a suspicious plan to access the e-signature system under the guise of a digital wallet project. This year, the delegation granted ten years ago by the government to Latvian State Radio and Television Centre to maintain the e-signature system is coming to an end.
Now, the decision on who and how will provide this service in the future has been delayed to such an extent that LVRTC warns that if the government does not make a decision within the coming weeks, the e-signature service will no longer be available from January.
