The drone that entered Latvian airspace overnight exploded in the Krāslava region approximately one kilometre from the centre of Svariņi parish, Aivars Belkovskis, the municipality’s civil protection coordinator, told LETA.
The incident occurred about one kilometre from Svariņi village, the administrative centre of the parish. The nearest inhabited settlement is located approximately 300–400 metres from the explosion site.
Belkovskis said the municipality was informed оперативly — within about 15 minutes. He assessed cooperation between the services as good and confirmed that he is currently at the scene.
The municipal representative stressed that residents are not in danger.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the Air Force identified an unmanned aerial vehicle entering Latvian airspace from Russia. Early warning systems detected a sound resembling an explosion in the area.
Drone debris has been found at the site. Units of the National Armed Forces, State Police and State Border Guard are present at the scene.
The ministry stated that no further threat to civilians or Latvian airspace security has been identified. No injuries have been reported, and no damage to civilian infrastructure has occurred.
An investigation into the circumstances of the incident is ongoing. The Krāslava municipality has been informed.
Defence Minister Andris Sprūds (Progressives) has announced that he has cut short his working visit to Ukraine and is returning to Latvia following the incident.
