Lithuania investigates possible drone crash

Lithuanian authorities are investigating a possible drone crash after an explosion was reported in Varėna District.
According to the Lithuanian Armed Forces, initial reports indicate that an unidentified object, possibly a drone, entered Lithuanian airspace overnight Sunday and then crashed. Video footage available to Lithuanian public media shows a sound made by an invisible object in the sky, followed by an explosion, followed by a flash and falling debris. Surveillance camera data shows that the explosion occurred at 3:04 a.m. early Monday morning.
It is currently unclear what the object that exploded was.
Authorities have activated standard emergency response protocols for situations involving explosives or dangerous objects. The armed forces said in a statement that

debris was visible at the scene and that the work of the responsible authorities was underway.

According to information available to LRT, police and fire services were at the scene on the afternoon of the 23rd of March, and an army helicopter was monitoring the scene from the air. Authorities said more information would be provided as the investigation continues.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė has called an emergency meeting of the National Security Council on the 24th of March.
