One of the world’s leading weapons manufacturers, Lockheed Martin, will invest ten million euros to establish a service center for HIMARS rocket artillery systems in Estonia, writes ERR News.
Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur stated in an official statement that Lockheed Martin plans to establish a service center within the next two years, and the initial investment will reach ten million euros. The service center will serve all three Baltic states, which means that military equipment will not have to be sent far for maintenance.
Company representatives plan to visit Estonia soon. The agreement on the establishment of the service center was signed on the 18th of March between Pevkur and Lockheed Martin Vice President Paula J. Hartley. The Estonian Defense Minister noted that the entry of the defense industry giant into the country demonstrates reliability and a desire to build long-term cooperation. He added that a lot of work has been done to bring the company to Estonia, and
expressed hope that the signed contract is the beginning of a broader long-term cooperation.
In the future, Estonia will not have to send its HIMARS systems elsewhere for maintenance and upgrades, and the service center will also be used by Latvians and Lithuanians. In addition, the entry of Lockheed Martin will also allow the exchange of technology and knowledge, and will give locals the opportunity to work as subcontractors.
The minister informed that several more contracts with the US company are in the process, and noted that when Estonia makes purchases, it also wants to see the company’s investments in the country.
The Estonian army has six HIMARS rocket artillery systems – they were delivered in April 2025. HIMARS is also in the arsenal of the Latvian and Lithuanian armies. Earlier this week, Lithuania reported that Lockheed Martin will open a branch of the company in the country.
