Corruption watchdog looks into For a Humane Latvia political party’s use of state funding

Latvian Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) has commenced an administrative procedure over the use of the funding provided by the Latvian state budget to For a Humane Latvia political party, as confirmed by KNAB.
KNAB currently has two inspections in the works over the use of state funding by the political party For a Humane Latvia (previously known as KPV LV) and compliance with requirements of the Law on Financing of Political Organisations.
KNAB has already commenced an administrative disciplinary case following one of the inspections.
At the same time, KNAB reports the institution does not have a single criminal procedure that would be related to the use of state funding by the aforementioned political party.

According to the law, political party For a Humane Latvia was paid funding from Latvia’s state budget worth EUR 85 387 in 2019, EUR 643 369 in 2020 and EUR 643 369 in 2021.
This year’s state funding for the political party is estimated at EUR 646 303. KNAB has time until 15 January to make its decision on the payment of state budget funding to different political parties in Latvia.
