The precipitation zone will continue to move across Latvia on Tuesday, the 24th of February — skies will be mostly cloudy. Snow will continue overnight in central and eastern regions, with heavy snowfall expected in some eastern areas. In parts of southern Latvia, sleet and freezing rain are also forecast, according to the Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
During snowfall, visibility will decrease and roads will be slippery.
In the afternoon, skies will gradually clear in some places. Winds will be light. Minimum air temperatures at night will range from -1…-5°C, while daytime temperatures will rise to +1…-3°C.
During the night into Wednesday, light snow is expected in some central and eastern regions. During the day, the influence of an anticyclone will strengthen — atmospheric pressure will rise, the weather will be dry, winds will be light, and clouds will dissipate across much of the country.
Minimum nighttime temperatures will drop to -9…-14°C, with coastal and southeastern regions a degree or two warmer.
Maximum daytime temperatures will range between 0…-5°C.
On Thursday, skies will be cloudy with some clear intervals. Light snow is expected in parts of northern Latvia during the day. A light to moderate southeasterly wind will blow. During the night into Thursday, skies will clear in eastern regions, allowing temperatures to fall to -12…-17°C. Where cloud cover remains, nighttime temperatures will range from -5…-10°C, with slightly warmer conditions along the coast. Maximum daytime temperatures will be between +2…-3°C.
In the second half of the week, precipitation is expected across much of the country, mainly in the form of snow and sleet. Both daytime and nighttime temperatures across most of Latvia will range between -2…+3°C. Light to moderate southerly winds will prevail.
