At the first meeting of the Board of the Freeport of Ventspils in 2026, Valdis Andersons was appointed Chairman of the Board. Andersons joined the Freeport Board in December last year as the representative nominated by the Minister for Transport, BNN reports, citing the port authority.
From July 2024 to December 2025, Andersons served as Chief Executive Officer of KS Terminal Ltd, while from April 2020 to July 2024 he was Chairman of the Management Board of EXTRON BALTIC Ltd.
Andersons has also served as Chairman of the Management Board of companies within the Riga Port Group—Rīgas Centrālais Termināls Ltd and Riga Container Terminal Ltd—and has gained international experience in a port logistics company in Germany, where he worked in port and railway terminal management from December 2010 to January 2016.
V. Andersons holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Riga Technical University’s Riga Business School, in cooperation with the State University of New York at Buffalo and the University of Ottawa, as well as a higher education diploma in physics and electronics from the University of Latvia.
Meanwhile, Artūrs Zandersons was elected Deputy Chairman of the Board.
He has been a member of the Freeport of Ventspils Board since February 2024 and represents the Ministry of Economics.
The Board is the highest decision-making body of the Freeport of Ventspils and oversees the administration led by the Freeport’s Managing Director. According to the Law on Ports, the Port of Ventspils has four board members—representatives nominated by the Ministers for Economics, Finance, Transport, and Smart Administration and Regional Development—who are appointed to and dismissed from office by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia.
The Freeport of Ventspils is the second-largest port in Latvia by cargo volume handled at terminals and one of the largest industrial centres in the country.
