On Friday, precipitation is expected at times – mainly snow and wet snow, while rain is also possible in the western parts of the country. Freezing rain may occur in some areas. A slight increase in snow cover is expected across a wider territory, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Roads will be slippery, and during snowfall visibility will at times deteriorate significantly. A light to moderate southerly to southeasterly wind will blow, while along the coast a gusty southerly to southwesterly wind is expected. During the day, air temperatures will rise to between +1 and -3 degrees Celsius, while along the coast temperatures will increase to +1 to +4 degrees.
Both Saturday and Sunday will remain rich in precipitation – snow is expected in many areas, and along the coast also wet snow and rain. In the central and eastern regions, the likelihood of freezing rain will persist. The snow cover on the ground will continue to gradually thicken. On Sunday, winds are expected to ease, with a light, variable-direction wind dominating. Over the weekend, slightly above-zero temperatures will persist only near the coast, while colder conditions will return across the rest of the country both during the day and at night (in many places between 0 and -5 degrees).
The first half of next week will bring drier weather, with stronger gusts remaining only in coastal areas. Frost will persist, and at night air temperatures in some regions will drop below -10 degrees Celsius.
