On Tuesday, skies will be mostly clear and dry conditions will prevail across Latvia. A light to moderate northeasterly to easterly wind will blow. Tuesday will stand out with noticeably colder temperatures than in recent days, with daytime air temperatures ranging from 0 to –5°C, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
On Wednesday night, after the sunny conditions on Tuesday, clouds will move in again from the north. During the day, skies will remain mostly cloudy, with occasional clear spells. Light snowfall is expected in some areas, mainly in eastern parts of the country. Roads may be slippery in places. Winds will be generally light across most of Latvia, but along the coast a northwesterly to westerly wind will blow at light to moderate strength, with gusts reaching up to 15 m/s along the Gulf coast. Nighttime temperatures will drop to –5 to –10°C, while in coastal areas near the Gulf they will be milder at –2 to –5°C. During the day, temperatures will rise to –3 to +1°C, and along the coast to +1 to +4°C.
No significant precipitation is expected on Christmas Day itself,
although skies will remain mostly cloudy and winds will be gusty. During the night into 25 December, temperatures in many parts of the country will again fall below 0°C, but during the day, as warmer air moves into Latvia, temperatures will rise and generally remain between 0 and +5°C.
Later in the holiday week, winds will continue to be gusty and the amount of precipitation—mainly sleet—is expected to increase. Air temperatures will gradually decrease, and in many areas thermometers will once again drop below freezing.
