Persistent frost and snow are not expected in the coming weeks, and this December is forecast to become one of the warmest in Latvia’s meteorological history, according to weather forecasters.
The average temperature for the month may reach +3°C. Similar warmth was last observed in December 2019 and 2015, while the record belongs to 2006, when the average temperature reached +4.3°C. The long-term norm (the 1991–2020 average) for December is –1.1°C.
According to the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, this week in Latvia is expected to be up to six degrees warmer than normal, and temperatures next week will also remain several degrees above average. Only at the end of December is slightly cooler weather possible.
In the coming days, skies will be cloudy with occasional rain. Winds will blow mainly moderately from the southwest, becoming gustier along the coast. Air temperatures will reach +4 to +9°C.
