A new cyclone will bring snow and sleet to Latvia

On Thursday, the sky will be cloudy, clearing only in some places from the second half of the night. During the night, precipitation is expected in many areas, and along the coast during the day — rain, wet snow, and in some places also snow, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

In parts of Kurzeme, fog will form, reducing visibility. Winds will blow lightly to moderately from the south. Air temperatures at night will drop to +1…–3°C, while during the day they will rise to 0…+3°C.

On Friday, clouds will bring precipitation to most of the country — wet snow, rain, and in some places snow at night. A light to moderate southerly and southeasterly wind will blow, turning southwesterly and westerly from the second half of the night, reaching 15–18 m/s in gusts along the coast.

At night, temperatures will fall to –1…+2°C, and during the day will not exceed +1…+6°C.

Over the weekend, the sun will alternate with clouds, and precipitation will still occur in various forms, as nighttime temperatures will be below zero in many places, locally reaching 0…–5°C, while daytime temperatures across most of the country will rise above 0°C.

At the beginning of next week, a new cyclone will approach Latvia from the south, shaping the weather conditions. Both day and night, temperatures will remain below 0°C in many areas. Almost the entire country will experience precipitation, mainly snow; however, in coastal areas and in Kurzeme, where temperatures rise above 0°C, wet snow and rain are also expected.
